| About Us
J & C Griffiths and Son is currently one of the longest established suppliers of new and used agricultural equipment, Ifor Williams trailers and a range of servicing, repair and spares solutions for both new and older machinery. Established in 1952, our family run business offers a full range of agricultural equipment solutions. We pride ourselves on our commitment to customer service and delivery and build long-term relationships with our customers on that basis.
The business was originally set up on the Green in Talgarth when the family took over a local garage. To start with our business mainly focused on car and motorbike servicing and repairs as well as fuel sales. At that point we also worked as blacksmiths, shoeing horses for the local hospital. Times certainly have changed now!
It soon became apparent that Talgarth’s location in the middle of a large agricultural community would change the face of our business. We became more involved in selling, buying and servicing/repairing agricultural machinery. As time passed this element of the business became our primary focus and we expanded our premises to meet demand with the purchase of a neighbouring yard.
As we grew, so did our contacts. We became the main distributor for Ifor Williams trailers in the Powys region and soon set up a range of other distribution agreements with major manufacturers of agricultural equipment and trailers so that we could offer our customers more options. We currently deal with over 20 of the major names in this field.
During this period our business diversified into agricultural contracting with an emphasis on manure spreading and combining. At its height this part of our business was running ten combines and, by the early 1960s, we needed to expand further and purchased another yard (the Belmont Works) in Hay-On-Wye. At this point we were also appointed with the International Harvester franchise for the area.
By the mid-1980s we decided to consolidate our operations into our Talgarth base and sold our Belmont Works. In order to offer the best range of equipment solutions to our growing customer base we also made the decision to move out of contracting to allow agricultural machinery to become our sole focus. This enabled us to increase our customer base and to further improve our reputation of providing a wide variety of equipment and after-service solutions to meet all our customer needs.
